Session five additional activity: Growth mindset reflection. A growth mindset expects mistakes and learns from them – in this mindset, skills can be learned. A fixed mindset expects perfection and views intelligence and skills as fixed – you have them or you don’t. In pairs or in large group, discuss: 1.) What are you good at? 2.) How did you get good? 3.) What else would you like to be good at? This exercise invites reflection and conversation about learning as a life-long process – practice your growth mindset!

Session five additional questions:

  • How do you react to the framework of being “intentional and firmly kind” in discipline?
  • What behavior modification strategies have worked in your family?
  • Do different children need different discipline methods?
  • How do you manage your own emotions when your child exhibits challenging behaviors?
