Love in action
The art of intergenerational hospitality
by Sarah Carson
In writing to the Romans, Paul advised this early Christian community: “For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.” Yet when it comes to sharing hospitality in the church, some gifts can seem more naturally useful than others. In this one-session devotional, Sarah Carson, Gather‘s former managing editor and a self-described hospitality-challenged member of the body of Christ, explores what creativity can teach us about about hospitality. While studying passages from Romans, 1 Kings, Matthew and Luke, participants will see how we all have the capacity to help others feel welcome and to accept this welcome for ourselves.
I just want to thank Sarah Carson for her writing the May Devotional. Our group used it yesterday for our June meeting. It was a wonderful study! I find it so easy to believe that Sarah is a writing teacher…the devotional is easy to understand and to follow… it is well-organized and meaningful. She was creative in the way she compared hospitality to creativity. I appreciated her openness when she shared about herself. For me, the greatest take-away was that “worry keeps us separate from one another.” Thank you once again, Sarah. I look forward to your next sharing!
I also need a copy PDF of “Love in Action: The art of intergenerational hospitality. Must be able to download since we will be having our meeting May 13th. We never got out March/April issue until the 1st week in April.
