Singing, writing moving, & connecting:
Advent rituals for uncertain times — 2020 Advent devotional
In times of turmoil and uncertainty such as we’ve experienced this year, it can help to name these days as “liminal.” The word “liminal” comes from the Latin word for threshold—a place that represents the ending of one thing and the beginning of another.
As we embark on our own emotional and spiritual journeys this Advent, we’ll explore four practices that can help to ground and steady us during this “liminal” time: gratitude, movement, song and honest conversation.

Thank you for making this document that supports our time of waiting for Christmas more meaningful.
Thank you for this opportunity to share Gather’s December devotional!
Our ‘Bagels & Bible’ Saturday group at our ELCA church on the Jersey shore has been struggling to re-start. Last March we were in the midst of an (excellent) video series on ancient Israel. Sharing a DVD via Zoom is a bit beyond us, and due to other church & day job needs, we had little bandwidth to pivot/pursue solutions. I saw this article in the December issue and knew it would be a good reentry for us. Worried about copy-right use, we had just put those plans on hold while we searched for anther resource. Just as I found a 2016 study that might work, your message about a ‘pdf to share’ landed in my inbox. Thanks. I’m hopeful it will support our group in this ‘waiting time’, helping us to focus hearts & minds this season.
THANK YOU for the work done to publish a great magazine every month. It’s an ELCA resource that resounds with real people leaning into Grace — looking to understand (and live) God’s gift of Law & Gospel.
So grateful to have this. Thank you!
Thank you for doing this. We all need pick me ups, especially at this time.
God Bless you all for your service! Every step for all of us is a blessing ! Thank you for sharing this December’s Devotional!
